My Dear Mother,

My last letter to you was
a short one, and written in haste, but this
time I have commenced in reason, so that
I may have time to write all I wish. Still
I know of nothing very interesting to write
about, but will endeavor to make my letter
prove acceptable to you.

I am now enjoying good health, and
am more pleasantly situated, than I was
during the four weeks that Mr Noyes [Ephraim Noyes] was absent
from here, as I have less care of business on
my mind, and less labor to perform.

Our friend Mr Millet is away now however
for a week, so that we are obliged to look out
for his stand during his absence beside being
deprived of his assistance in promoting our
business. Still my situation is easier and
pleasanter than it is when Mr Noyes is away.

Mr M. will probably return in a day or
two, and then it will be my time to leave
for a few days, but I think I shall prefer
staying where I am, as I have no particular
place to go to, or any business that calls
me away from San Francisco -----
