It seems very strange that Mr Jewett, should
be so unwell again, for I thought he had
got almost entirely well of his lameness
and I was in hopes that he would never
be obliged to suffer in like manner again
but his Cup of Life seems to be a bitter one,
still I hope he will regain his health
again, but as you say, I think his
recovery is doubtful, for after having suffered
so long, and now to be brought down again
so low it does not seem as though he
could ever enjoy good health again ---
although he may yet live comfortably for
many years, as you wrote in your last
letter that he had just been to Boston
and was better than he was when you
wrote me before.

I should like very much to see Clarence
or even to receive a letter from him would
be a pleasure as I have only received
one from him since I came to California
and I do not know as I have written
him more than once either. I thought
a while ago that I would write him
and see if he would not answer me
then I thought as I did not know just
where he was located, he might not get
my letter so I have not yet written him.
