there has been a good Deal of Murdering
& Rabing [robbing] here this Season there will be
2 men Hung here next week for Murder
a great many has been Sent to the State
Prison and the Jail is full now

The Election was carried by the know nothing
they Elected every officer in the State
I want to come home but I so knot
not know when I shall ever be able to
come or not I am Step father to 3 Children
1 girl 12 years old 1 girl 6 years 1 boy 3 years
You may think I am in quite a family
Business but I will try and manage
them if Morgan had Staid [stayed] and
helped me I Could have Come home
with Some Money but it is otherwise

Mary Eliza is quite a Lady by this

clerk for me but I think my wife can
help me she can talk french [French] & German
and there is a good Many of Both here
I have not heard from Woods lef he left
