American River April 1st 1850

Dear Sister

I received your letters last tuesday [Tuesday]
and I can assure you they were very welcome
visitors for up to that time I had not heard
a word from home since I left although
we get New York papers at the arrival
of every Steamer which is twice a month.
I sent a letter home the 10th of last month
which I hope you will recieve [receive] at an
early day. I am glad you have postponed that
scolding you are a going to give me until
I get home so that I shall be able to take
my own part although I could not blame you
much. I am very glad you received my letters so
promptly for there is thousands of letters gets
Miscarried here in the mines you say that
you were afraid the cholera would kill me there
never was cholera enough made to kill me.
you wish for me to give you an account of my
journey across the plains but that would
take a great deal of time and paper so
I will have to postpone that until I can
see you and then I will tell you all
