the miners can get in the beds of the
streams to work most of the miners think
the rivers will be lower this year than ever
they were before and that more gold will be
taken out than has any previous Season. the
Rivers were a complete failure last year and
the dry diggins has failed this winter for until
the last two weeks there has not been as mu-
ch rain as there is at home in the summer
time. I must now close for this time.

give my respects to father mother sisters
and all enquiring Friends if I send any gold
home there is one large flat piece which I want
you or Mary to Get made up into a beautiful
Gold ring for mother at my expence [expense]. I hope
this will find you and yours as it leaves
me in excellent health. Farewell for
the present

PS April 4 since I wrote this letter
it has been raining almost continualy [continually]
the river has raised several feet and the bank
diggins are all under water
