have strained every nerve and are still doing it
to get people to settle on the farming lands but
if the trouble is if everybody goes to farming wher [where]
will they find market for their produce. I seen wheat
brought in a schooner sixty of [or] seventy miles and
sold in Sacremento [Sacramento] for a dollar and a quarter
per hundred which is seventy five cents a bush [bushel]
and in Oregon I am told there were fields of wheat there
that would not pay for Cutting so they left it there.
the mines are over run with Idle men for the
Gold is not everywhere a man digs as these Capi-
talists would make greenhorns believe and they
are beginning to find that out themselves.
