Dear Father and Mother

I received your very Welcome
letter of the 18th of March on the 18th of
the present month. I was glad to hear you
were all in good health. I think I partly acco-
unted for not receiving a good many of my
letters on account of a man of the same name.
I am glad to hear Elizabeth is so well Married
but I think she slights me in not sending
me a letter once in a while.

I am also glad to hear Mary and Jim is
well and doing well.

and Matilda I suppose is doing well from
what she writes.

And I suppose Caroline has Education Enough
as she dont [don't] want to go to school any more.
I am very sorry to hear of the times being so
hard in Albany this winter but at the present
time it appears to be a general thing through
out [throughout] Europe and America. the poor people
have suffered here this winter there has been no
rain here of any account all the winter not
as much as you generally have in the
summer season therefore in dry diggins
