2 Instead of the pure – direct –
every day doing duty & God requires
bring forth works met for repentance –

They would see one leaving his business –
perambulating the country – living on
providence – clothing himself oddly
on delivering exciting harangues –
like Peter the hermit preaching a new
crusade; – to show that his repen-
-tance & reform. (Some cavil at X^ns [Christians] & say
are not our works as good as
theirs – Where is evid. [evidence] of change.)

– When men are truly Converted –
their heart – not flesh – becomes as that
of a child – as C. [Christ] said – humble
yourselves at this child.

Evid. [Evidence] of rep. [repentance] is found in a new & holy
life where God has placed us ~
