2. Love of benev. [benevolence] is delight in happiness – &
God loves every creature that can be hap-
-py with longing, intense, earnest love.

3 Not one who is not the object of this
benevolence – thus far sympathy – this true
philanthropy.

4 God loves Holy beings with love of
complacency = delight in virtuous character.
Delights in them as actually virtuous; not as
beings who may be happy in virtue.

Thus sympathy with like characters –
the other is regard for being without ref-
-erence to character specially [especially] ~

Tender mercies extend to all –
but he has special love for those
that resemble him in character.
