The year 1851 was an uneventful
year, as Compared with the previous
one. A new set of City officers was
in power, more energetic and less
extravagant; who funded the debt,
drew less in payment for their services,
and faithfully concerned themselves with
the Citys [City's] welfare, in all departments.
Fire limits were established. Many
brick buildings were erected, some
of them paying some little respect to their
architectural proportions. Everybody thrived;
everything prospered. The seasons were
beautiful. The scene was enchanting.
