So with this – No man dares deny
its obligation – or to profess to disregard
it – can't escape its force ~

We are to inquire – on pres. [present] occasion
I First – Into the Nat. [Nature] of this requirement.

1. It is not merely of the nature of an ex-
-hortation – or candid – advice. That one may
or may not heed acc. [according] to his own judgt [judgment]
in the – being held respons. [responsible] for his judgment.

2. Not of t. [the] nat. [nature] of a mere arbitrary rule
laid down – without ref. [reference] to kn. [knowledge] or judgt [judgment] –
or feeling – in those whom it affects.

Xnity [Christianity] nothing to do with such rules –
tho. [though] some of her devotees have wrongly insisted on them.
