3 But a pestilence is in the
main sent as a means of mor-
-al discipline. Thus God
chastened his erring people of
old – so he visits us now.

Too selfish – too much in love
with life – too greedy of gain –
too ready to consume gifts or lusts –
forgetful of his laws – his au-
-thority – his power!

1 Let us submit to it as a nec. [necessary]
chastisement. We deserve it.

2 Let us neither presume nor fear.
A calm religious trust – a firm self-
-possession is our best safe-guard –
our best preparation. Do our duty &
God will care for us.
