to hear from Cousin Jane – I have long
intended writing her, but have so may cares
I have not much time to devote to better writing – If
we could only have our thoughts understood
without this labor of writing – how nice it would
be – The Bartlett Springs" in Contra
Costa Co. [County] about 75 miles from here –
There are many Springs of different kinds in
this State – I would be delighted to have
some of your Maple Sugar – and more than
pleased to have you have some of the luscious
cherries, Apricots, peaches and other kinds
of fruit now in the market –Haying is
over, and the harvesting of grain will soon
be – The rains are over until fall, and a
nearly cloudless Sky for weeks, yes months
is expected – This is the busy time of the
year with the farmers and fruit men –
It requires many hands to gather and take
care of the fruit in its season.
