I went and Saw the agent and found he had a few Steerage tickets
and bought 4 tickets we paid 100 for our tickets, Mr Bernus has
just come in to the tent and Says that Sager will not go in
the vessel Some one has told him that she is an old vessel
and he says he shall not go in her, I did not like one
which one he or I did not go on board the
vessel before I bought my ticket but the agent told
me She was A no 1 I saw a number that had been
on board and said She is a good vessel, it cost me
$28 to cross the Isthmas of Panama. My valice [valise] got wet and wet
part of my Shorts and Some other articles, the pice [piece]
of cake you gave me was in the valice [valise] And was moldy
I through [threw] it away der [dear] Sarah when you recive [receive] this please
writ [write] Melvin and let him Know that you have herd [heard] from me
I told him I would write him when I arrived at Panama
I cannot write any one but you my dear wife I am Seated
on the ground and my valice [valise] has to answer the purpose

passage Dear Sarah I want you to be sure and write me
in time so that when I get to San Francisco I can hear
from my dear little family I feel very anxious about
