The, following Hymn, was composed by
Rev. J. A. Benton, and Sung by the members.
of the Edward Everett Company, at Camp
on the Banks of the Mokelumne. river Sunday
Evenig. [Evening] Aug. 5th 1849.

Here Lord, we meet, a pilgrim band.
Once more to bless thy fostering hand.
O'er seas and dangers safely come
To scenes afar from native home.

Thy glory, Lord, becomes war mid Ocean's roar.
We oft have seen?; and on the shore,
Thy handiwork, thy power, thy might,
By Sunny day, by Starry night.

And hither thus we all have strayed,
Together here our vows have paid,
In rocky dell – by brawling Stream.
At dawn of day ?neath by moon lit beam.

But now we meet, not as before?;
We meet and part, to meet no more
An Allie'd band; for time and care
Have changed us here, as every where.

Above as forth our flag we fling,
Receive us Lord beneath thy wing?;
From Sickness guard, from peril save?,
From Evil keep, and from the Grave –

over. [lower right corner]
