It is some time since I have
written you I presume but I am
such a perfectly rotten correspondent
that I just cannot get together to
write.

I just received a picture of
you, sent from France, which
shows you in your oversea outfit
with your Croix de Guerre avec
le palm appearing very nicely
on your chest. And I feel proud
to think that we are brothers and
that part of your glory is mine
in that you are a Bates as well
