Convoy from Fere en Tardinois
to Bucy le Long. Had to walk
back from Loupeign for
another car for Ben. No 7. went
on the bum. Very heavy frost.
The water in the radiators was
frozen. Some job to get the
cars started. Was in charge of
the convoy. Saw a wonderful
sight at Bucy. Was looking
at a sausage that was nearly
above us. I was very surprised
to see both observers jump out.
As soon as their parashute [parachute]
opened I looked above the
baloon [balloon] and saw the Boche
plane. The sausage first
wilted a little then fire started
at one end. Soon the whole
baloon [balloon] was in flames. The
