of July celebration. When
we went down the New York
harbor they blew whistles
and rang bells. We went
thru some awfully pretty
country, in New York state
to. I cannot remember
half the thngs to tell you.
I guess you can see that
by the way I jump from
one thing to another. It
was just daylight when
we crossed the Mississippi
river at St. Louis so I
could not see very much
of it. We arrived at Camp
[crossed out] about four Sunday
afternoon. The day we left
the paper boys said it
was the hottest day they
had had in 37 years. A
number of men dropped out
on account of the heat when
we were marching to the
