CITY OF WASHINGTON, ss.
To all to whom these presents shall come, GREETING:
KNOW YE, that Linda [Shorter?] alias Adams
hath produced to me, satisfactory evidence of the legality of her title to free-
dom, pursuant to an act of the Corporation of the city of Washington, entitled
"An act concerning free negroes and mulattoes, and slaves," passed on the
31st day of May, in the year eighteen hundred and twenty-seven, together
with the following list of her family, to wit: Josephine 7 years old
and Henry three years old her children
and having given bond, according to the regulations of the afore-mentioned act,
and therefore permitted to reside in the said city of Washington, for one
year from the date hereof they complying with the provisions contained in the
above recited act,
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused
the seal of the Corporation of the said city of Washington to
be affixed, this eighth day of September
