Thursday Evening May 13th 1858

My own dear Mother,

I recieved your note this evening. It was a painful pleasure to hear from home. I was truly glad to hear you stood the ride so well. I dreaded for you to take that long rough ride, yet I felt your greatest trouble was at the end of your journey. Bro. Sid had told me of the distressed state of mind my dear sister was in, and I felt strongly inclined to go home with you, & doubtless I should have done so, had you been able to carry me. If she doesn't find relief soon, and you think it would add to hers or your comfort for me to be there, send for me. You both have my sympathy and prayers.
