Constitution
Preamble
The Congregation B'nai Israel organized
in the year 5617 (1857) desirous of perpetuating
the long cherished doctrines and precepts of
Judaism, and solicitous of establishing a
form of service compatible with the advanced
state of religious sentiment and feeling have
for the more affected accomplishment of
their objects adopted the following
Constitution and By-Laws.
Sacramento, June 22nd, 1879
Article I
Section I: The name of the Congregation shall
be B'nai Israel
Article II
Section I: The religious service of this Congregation
shall be in conformity with the
minhag America and be conducted with
the assistance of a choir and organist.
Article III
Section I: The affairs of this congregation shall
be administered by a Board of Officers
consisting of a President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer, and six (6) Trustees who
shall be elected, three (3) of whom shall be
designated as school directors, at a general
meeting to be held in the month of
"Sivan" of every year or as near that time
as practicable; said Board of Officers
shall take their seats immediately after
election, and shall continue in office until
their successors are elected and qualified.
Section II: All or each of the officers mentioned in section one
of this article shall be elected by separate
ballots, and the candidate receiving the highest or majority
number of the votes cast shall be declared elected.
