Sacramento, January 30, 1859

The Congregation met at the Synagogue Mr. J. Davis in the Chair. Mr. Lipman read a Motion that a committee of five be appointed by the Chair and go to collect the payment of ten dollars to fix up the Synagogue which was carried.

The following were appointed Lipman, J. Davis, Chs Lehman, L. Jacobs, A. Levy & G. Aronson

Mr. Ahpel made a Motion which was carried, that in case the party on whom the Committee may call should not be able to pay on account of poverty then the Committee shall be instructed to take nothing.

Mr. D. Kohn called to take up from the table Mr. Lipman's resolution regard our Monthly dues, which was carried.

Mr. Ahpel made Motion that Mr. Lipman's resolution shall pass that every member shall pay fifty cents (or two [dollars), a week or two dollars a month, which was carried, no other business before the meeting adjourned to the call of Pres'd.

Sacramento, April 25, 1859

The Congregation met at Temperence Hall. A regular meeting was held. Mr. A Hamburger in the chair. The Minutes of last meeting were read & approved.

Mr. H. Ahpel's report as Treasurer was received and read, referred to the board of Trustees.

M. Wormser made a Motion that the Secretary have ten days time to make out his report and give the same to the Board of Trustees.

Mr. B. Steinfeld & S. Hoffman send in their resignation and were accepted.

The Congregation went to the election of Officers for the regular annual Term.

[Margin note: For Pres] Mr. J. Davis was nominated, the rules were suspended & Mr. Davis For Pres elected by acclamation for Presid.

[Margin Note: For V. Pres] Mr. Lippman was nominated, the rules were suspended & Mr. Lippman duly elected by acclamation for V. Pres.

[Margin note: For Sec] Mr. J. Bremmer was nominated the rules were suspended & Mr. Bremmer duly elected by acclamation for Sec.

[Margin note: For Tres] Mr. H. Ahpel was nominated the rules were suspended & Mr. Ahpel duly elected by acclamation for Treasurer.

[Margin Note: For Trustees] Mr. G Aronson, M. Marks M. Goldstein, Chs. Lehman, Ph. Frank, L. D. Berwin were nominated, a ballot showed the following result: G. Aronson 32, M. Marks 40, M. Goldstein 24, Chs Lehman 23, Ph. Frank 13 votes M. Marsh, G. Aronson, M. Goldstein having received the highest no. of votes were duly declared elected.

Mr. I. Wormser's amendment that no Israelite, who has been residing in this city, for six months or longer without having become a member of this congregation, shall enjoy the privileges thereof or be admitted to a seat in the synagogue during the holidays -- without having first paid the regular dues of a member for the time of his residence not exceeding twelve months, was read the second time and rejected. Mr. I. Wormser give notice of reconsidering the note by next meeting.

Communications were received, from Mr. Simon Rosenthal, and Z. Neustadler and credentials read and referred to a select committee. Mr. Marks, Mr. Sloss Mr. Lippman, to report next meeting Sunday 1st May at 2 o'clock p.m. 1859.

The following gentlemen were duly elected members of this Congregation -- [Margin Note: Names] M. Waterman, A. Ausich, H. Kronenthal, L. Greenebaum, S. Goldberg, M. Ross, Chas Haines, Joe Harris, H. Silverston, Jacob Ben Hajon, B. Liverman, H. Neubauer, E. P. Nathan, A. Steiner, S. Coney, M. Stork, Joe Loryea, H. Alexander, L. [??Morres].

After a long and sharp debate, the congregation adjourned till Sunday 1st May, 2 o'clock P.M. 1859]to elect a reader shochet.

Sacramento, May 1st, 1859

A regular meeting was held in Temperance Hall, the President, Mr. Joe Davies, in the chair.

Minutes of last meeting read, and approved.

Mr. Sloss made a motion, which was carried, in regard to money, in the hands of the committee, belonging to the Building Fund, to pay the same over to the Treasurer.

A majority and minority report was handed in, from the Committee of nomination, upon the credentials for the office of shochet, reader, and teacher.

Mr. Aronson moved that both reports be received, the same be placed on file, and the committee discharged. The roll was called, and the motion carried by 22 yes & 20 noes.

It was moved and seconded by M. Marks, that we go in to the election for chazzan, shochet and teachers for 3 months at a salary of $85 per month.

The nominees were: Z. Neustadler Simon R. Rosenthal and a ballot held with the following results: Neustadler receiving (18) votes, Rosenthal (25) votes and two scattering, Simon R. Rosenthal having received the highest number of votes was thereupon declared by the President duly elected, the office to commence the 22 day of May [??]

On Motion the meeting adjourned.

Special Meeting was held at Graham's Hall on Sunday, May 15th at 2 P.M.

Vice President Lippman in the chair.
