The two communcations from the Rev. Dr. J. Bloch were read in reference to Chanukah festival and new laws for government of funeral ceremonies, and on motion of Judge G. Haines, seconded by Mr. J.S. Newmark, the consideration of the same were postponed until the return to the chair of the President Mr. L. Elkus and he be requested to call a special meeting for such consideration. Carried.
The committee on cemetery improvement reported progress and asked for further time.
The committee on presentation to Mr. S. Morris, the former Secretary, reported that they had purchased a 1/2 dozen silver spoons and had presented same appropriately.
Nothing further appearing, the Vice President adjourned the meeting.

Sacramento, November 14, 1881
A special meeting of the Board of officers was held on the above date at 7:30 P.M.
The President L. Elkus in the chair.
All officers noted present excepting G. Haines and Mr. Block.
The President then stated that the meeting was called for the purpose of acting upon the communication of the Rev. Dr. J. Bloch in regard to giving a Chanukah Festival and said communication was open for debate.
Mr. Samuel Lavenson moved and it was seconded that the communication be received and acted upon. Carried.
A discussion as to the advisability of giving such a Festival at the present time, the same being debated upon pro & con by all members present including the Rev. Dr. J. Bloch who was present by invitation. No definite conclusion being arrived at, the Rev. Dr. Bloch asked to withdraw from the meeting pending further argument.

It was moved and seconded that the President be appointed a Committee of one, to wait upon the Ladies Benevolent Society to get their views and ascertain if they will actively assist in disposing of tickets in order to make the Festival a financial success and then after learning their pleasure call a special meeting of the Board. Carried.
The meeting then adjourned subject to the call of the President.
