On motion of Mr. Newmark, a vote of thanks be tendered to Judge Haines for the use of his office to various committees of the congregation. Carried.

On motion of Mr. Levison, Mr. Barnes be requested to clean up the synagogue and his salary be kept until the sanction of the Vice President. Carried.

No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned.

Sacramento, July 14th, 1879

A special meeting of the Board of Officers was held at Judge Haines office at 8 1/4 P.M.

Mr. L. Elkus, President, in the chair. All officers was noted present.

The President stated this meeting was called for the purpose to make arrangements to received Rev. S. Gerstman, and also Mr. Loewenthal wishes a leave of absence for one month.

On motion of Mr. Phillips a committee of three be appointed to meet Rev. S. Gerstman at the junction. Carried. The President appointed Mr. Phillips, Levison, and Robertscheck.

On motion the President was added to the committee.

Mr. L. Phillips tendered the hospitality to Rev. S. Gerstman, which on motion the generosity of Mr. Phillips was accepted.

A comunication from Rev. Mr. Loewenthal was read asking the Board to grant him a leave of absence from August 1st to September 1th.

On motion of Mr. Levison, a leave of absence be granted to Rev. Mr Loewenthal from the first of August to the 1st of September, providing he agree that his term of office expires the first of September 1879. Carried.

Sacramento, July 23th, 1879

A special meeting of the board of officers was held at Judge Haines office at 8 1/4 P.M.

Mr. L. Elkus, president, in the chair. All officers present excepted Mr. S. Levison and J.S. Newmark.

The President stated this meeting was called for, that the board received a communication from Rev. Dr. Gerstman.

On motion, the communication was received, and Dr. Gerstman was present (by invitation of the President). He was kindly asked to read the communication and explain the same time.

Dr. Gerstman read the same, it was a suggestion how the mode of worship shall be carried out.

On motion of Mr. Phillips that the Rev. Dr. Gerstman shall read Minhag Americka [Note] and three members shall be called up before the Torah.

And Dr. Gerstman shall read the Haftorah. Carried.

No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned.

Sacramento, July 27th, 1879

A regular monthly meeting of the Board of Officers of Congregation B.I. was held at Judge Haines office at 10 1/2 A.M.

Mr. L. Elkus, President, in the chair. All the officers was noted present, with the exception Mr. Newmark.

The minutes of last and also of special meeting was read and approved.

Report of the Finance committee was read which they stated that they have examined the report of the outgoing secty. and treasurer and found them correct.

On motion the report was received and placed on file.

Committee on repairs, Mr. Levison reported that they have examined the basement for school room and they think it would cost too much for the present to fix it up.

On motion of Mr. Haines, the report be received and committee have further time. Carried.

Report of Eureka Social Club was read in which they stated that they have held a picnic on June 1st, 1879 for the benefit of the C.B.I. of which the Total Receipt from all sources were $450.50 " Expenditures 363.40 Balance net profit 87.10

which the Secty has received and handed over to the Treasurer.

n motion, the report be received, place on file and the Secty. be instructed to write a vote of thanks to said society.

The bonds of Treasurer was on motion fixed at one thousand dollars.

and the bonds of secty. was on motion fixed at five hundred dollar.

The Bonds of Mr. Wilson as principle and Mr. H. Ross, and G. Politz in sum of five hundred dollars as sureties for faithful performance as shamus of this congregation, was read and on motion was received and handed over to the president for safe keeping.

The secretary reported on delinquency of member of long standing. On motion it was laid over till the next regular monthly meeting. Carried.

The secretary reported that there is charge in the ledger monthly dues to members that says that they have not subscribed that amount.

On motion, the sect'y was instructed to make the necessary correction.

The following bills was presented and on motion ordered paid

Rev. H. Lowenthal for salary for July $100.00 N. Monks " taken care of cemetery $15.00 Hebrew Observer for advertising on months 6.00 Locke & Lavenson for duster [Note 1] 4.00 G. Haines exchange on silver 3.27 W. Eberhardt fixing scrolls [Note 2] 2.50 F. Foster binding record books 1.00 H.A. Weaver printing bylaws 23.50 S. Morris, stationery 9.90 total $165.17

The proposition of Mr. S. Sinay to become a member of this congregation was read. On motion the application was received and the applicant voted for,

which resulted in his election.

The President stated that the organ for the congregation has arrived.

On motion, the President and Vice President was authorized to make necessary arrangements for the same. Carried.

The Vice President stated that the cemetery needs little repairing done. On motion, the Vice President is authorized to have the necessary repairing done.

No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned.

Sacramento, August 5th, 1879

A special meeting of the Board of Officers was held at Judge Haines office at 8 1/4 p.m. Mr. L. Elkus, President, in the Chair.

All officers were noted present, except for Mr. B. Levy and A. Hamburger.

The President stated that this meeting was called for the purpose of paying traveling expenses to Rev. Mr. Gerstman, and making arrangements for organist and choir.

On motion of Mr. Newmark that $150.00 be paid to Rev. Gerstman for traveling expenses and a order drawn on the Treasurer for the amount.

On motion, the President be a committee of one to help Mr. Gerstman to establish a choir, and engage an organist, not to exceed $20.00 per month.

No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned.
