Sacramento, August 30th, 1879
A regular monthly meeting of the Board of Officers of Congregation B'nai Israel was held at Judge Haines office at 9 a.m.
Mr. L. Elkus, President in the Chair. All officers present. The minutes of special and regular meetings was read and approved.
The following bills was presented and on motion was ordered paid
Mr. M. Friedman for salary as Shochet for August $20.00 N. Mohns to take of cemetery for August $15.00 M. Wilson for salary and service at marriage $30.00 T. D. Scriver, carriage at funeral for [??] $4.00 Capitol Gas Company $4.00 L. L. Lewis gas fitting $13.50 Isaac M. Wise for advertising $6.00 J. McClatchy and Company for advertising meetings $2.20 S. Morris Stationery $2.30 G. Haines Exchange on Silver $1.56 W. P. Stoner Painting and Carpentry $5.75 Rev. S. Gerstman on monthly salary in advance $150.00 Total $254.31
The President stated that he made arrangements with an organist at $20.00 per month paid during the Holiday, and $15.00 per month after Holiday. He also reported progress on a choir.
A communication was read from Rev. S. Gerstman asking this to advance one month's salary and a compenstion for the month of August. On motion of Mr. Haines, one month's salary be advanced to Rev. Gerstman, and order drawn on the Treasurer for the amount. Carried.
On motion of Mr. Newmark, one hundred dollars be renumerated to Rev. Gerstman for the month of August, subject to the approval of the congregation this afternoon. Carried.

Resignation of Mr. S. A. Hamburger and M. A. Hamburger was read and on motion, accepted.
A set of rules and regulations was received from Mr. Gerstman, and also asking for a pulpit was read, and as so far as of a pulpit this it was accepted, and order made and in regard to the rules and regulations was on motion, left to a committee of 4 to confer with Rev. Gerstman and report at a call of special meeting. Carried. The President appointed Mr. Robertscheck, Hamburger, Newmark, and M. Levy.
The delinquent list of members was read and on motion, the dues was remitted as follows: S. Cooney $10.00 Mr. Friedman 25.00 L. Levy 20.00 A. Hyman 26.00 I. Lewald 29.00 M. Hirsch 51.00 S. Stein 16.00 M. Wilson 28.00 Total $105.00 S. Goldstein 25.00 Total $230.00 I. Lesser 16.00 Total $246.00
Mr. M. Wilson was authorized to get a sprinkler and brush and present the bill to the Board.
On motion, the Secretary was instructed to communicate with Miss Birnbry in regard to the raffle what Miss Birnbry so kindly made for the benefit of the Congregation B'nai Israel, and to ask for that amount.
On motion, the Vice President was empowered to fix the necessary things in the Synagogue [??around].

On Motion of Mr. B. Levy a committee of 4 be appointed to keep order and decorum during the service in the synagogue. Carried. The president appointed Mr. B. Levy, J.S. Newmark , A. Hamburger and M. Levy.
No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned.

Sacramento, September 14th, 1879
A special meeting of the board of officers was held at 10 1/2 o'clock A.M. Mr. L. Elkus president in the chair. All the officers was noted except Mr. B. and M. Levy.
The president stated this meeting is called for making preparation for the coming holy days and hear the report of committee on revising the rules and regulations.
The committee reported they have met with Mr. Gerstman and have attend some services from Minhag America. On motion the report was adopted and committee discharged.
The president reported that he procured a choir during the holiday and the congregation will have to pay for the same.
On motion of Mr. Newmark, a committee of 5 be appointed to canvass among the merchants that the collection days be made, in place of Saturday, on Monday. Carried.
The president appointed Mr. Newmark, Lavinson, Phillips, Hamburger, and Elkus.
A communication from Rev. Gerstman was read and placed on file.

The secretary was authorized to have 250 tickets printed, "please be silent."
On motion of Mr. Newmark the vice president and secretary have power to sell seats to nonmembers.
No further business appearing, the meeting adjourned.

A regular monthly meeting of the board of officers was held at 10 1/2 o'clock A.M.
Mr. M. Robertscheck, V. President in the chair. All officers was noted present, except Mr. L. Elkus.
The minutes of the regular monthly was read and corrected. It shall say the delinquent list of the old congregation was read and the minutes of the special meeting was read and adopted.
The monthly bills was read and on motion ordered paid. On motion that half month salary be paid Mr. Gerstman in advance. Carried.
On motion the secretary was authorized whenever the organist and choir present their bill for the month of September to draw a warrant for the amount. Carried.

The Secretary reported that Miss Birnbrei [Note 2] has donated the proceeds of raffle for the benefit of the Congregation, two hundred dollars and handed it over to the Treasurer.
On motion of Mr. Newmark a committee of 3 be appointed to draft suitable resolution and present the same to Miss Birnbrei. Carried. The President appointed Mr. Newmark, Levison, and B. Levy.
On motion of Mr. Newmark that a committee of one be appointed to confer with Mr. Elkus to appoint Mr. Rand as organist in place of Mrs. Heber, and to have a special meeting about a choir whenever Mr. Elkus will be able to be about. Carried.
On motion of Mr. Lavinson, the Secretary be authorized to notify Mr. M. Friedman that his service as shochet from the first of October is no more required. Carried.
The committee on seats made their report that they have received $ 30.00 for nonmembers. On motion the report be received, place on file
