1889 Tues January 1. Very nice and clear and quite with allmost a total eclipse of the sun. Lew and I worked at a machine house. Lew found out about Wrights Drunk. One horse killed the other badly hurt.

Wed January 2. Very nice again. Lew and I went and got the grist. I borrowed 55 dols of Charly Sheldon. Paid the History cos note got postal order from Mrs Bartlet for 27.73 dollars and Charly [Pennock or Permack?] paid us 4 dollars.

January 3. Nice as ever no wind nor storm and bright sunshine. Lew worked out his road tax. I went to town again and paid Lews tax $41.00 and twenty five dollars on mine and I took dinner with Meda.

January 4. Very fine again. I think that the wind was a little more raw and chilly than for the last few days. Lew and I worked at the machinery shed in the forenoon I all [illegible] got it done Lew went and got [1100 lbs bran?].

Sat January 5 Weather mild clear and lovely. We got out and hauled and put into the cistern 3 loads of ice it is about 6 inches thick. Bertie Black helped us at the ice today too.

January 6 Sun Nice as ever again today. Lew went with Susy and Topsy to John Dragars to take Charleys folks up there. Meda didn't come home. She went to Dotts. Mother and I left Sunday.

Mon January 7. Pretty nice awhile then it gave us a cold north east wind and lots of it. We fixed the horse rake where the axle was bent and put the things into the tool shed and done sundry other small jobs.

January 8 Tues Weather rather cooler with some wind. Lew had a lame eye and didn't work. I worked at cleaning out the barn but didn't get done, had to drive out Jerys cattle and fix the fence.
