Fri July 1st Pretty warm and looked very much like rain and did rain a little about 2 O clock. Lew cultivated out the corn and potatoes. Kib went to town and done various odd jobs the rest of the day. Jake and I finished mowing the orchard and spread it. Then we cut the grass in the plum patch by the granery and spread the hay. Then we chored a while. Then I put London purple on the potatoes. Then we shocked the hay on the lawns and turned it over in part of the orchard and tonight we had 3 men and a boy to supper and expect then [them] here for breakfast. They have a drove of cattle bought near Trinidad and are taking them to North Park.

Sat July 2 Windy all day and quite uncomfortably cold too som [some] of the time. The boys hauled 5 loads of hay from over on the hill and shocked up some of the hay in the orchard. I mowed the south end of the 10 acre piece as far north as the ditch and I think it is pretty heavy too. Helen Heath came out to stay with us awhile to day.

Sun July 3 Quite nice but some cooler and thundered and lighteninged quite a bit and sprinkled a little. We all worried the day thorugh after our several tastes and inclinations. The bees swarmed again and Jake hived them in a box for himself. Mary and Aggie are here going to stay over the fourth.
