1895 Diary Continued from page 287

Fri Aug 9 1895 Quite pleasant all day. Dave went to town this forenoon with the butter and done some errands. Will and I fixed up the shocks that the wind had blown the tops off from and made a bridge near the corner of the alfalfa field and this afternoon we raked and shocked the hay on the piece over on the hill.

Sat Aug 10 Clear mostly and nice all day. The boys stacked the piece over on the hill and then put into the barn loft the hay that was cut in the orchard. I put in most of my time hoeing strawberries.

Sun Aug 11 Clear and nice and pretty warm. Mother Dave Daisy Levernash and myself went up to John Dragers and had a very pleasant visit. Will went over to town and got the mail. We had news from Meda. She is at the sanitarium at Boulder and writes very encouragingly of her prospects of being helped there.

Mon Aug 12 Fine but pretty hot. The boys hauled 7 loads and put it onto the stacks next the cow stable and it makes then stacks look quite huge. I fixed for irrigating the piece over on the hill but lacking water. I sent word to Geo [George] Stearley and I hope that we will have plenty tomorrow. Mr Bee and me both.

Sun Aug 18 Quite nice to day but clouded up towards night and threatened rain some. We kept Sunday about as we usually do when we stay at home. Had some company Mr Marble Charley Wills Will Lindamyer and Mr Hall etc.

Mon Aug 19 Cloudy about as much as clear and we had a good deal of threatening and thunder but only a little rain. Dave mowed some and I budded some but neither of us done much.

Tues Aug 20 Clear and nice. We irrigated got the piece above the house about done and to night have turned most of the water on to the piece north of the barn. Dave mowed the lawns a good part of them and I budded plum and cherry trees a good lot of then this forenoon Mr Wyatt and another man came and their business is to get some more of our place for the reservoir they want to raise it 5 feet. I offered them the land for 100 dollars pr [per] acre and they must take the piece over on the hill and the rest of the piece below the orchard or they can have the whole place for 100 dollars pr [per] acre but they would not give me an answer yet.

Wed Aug 21 Mostly clear and didnt rain either. We chored around this morning and about 10 O clock those gentlemen who want a slice of our place for reservoir purposes came and we talked the matter up until about noon but without any results and they went to Mr Marbles and Dions. Mr Silas Buffoms folks came about 11 O clock. Mother and I was going down to Franks so at Mr Buffoms request I drove their horse. We staid [stayed] at Franks to night.

Thurs Aug 22 Clear and nice this morning. Pretty warm about noon and a cold drizzling rain towards night. Mr Buffoms folks staid [stayed] at our house until we came home and Dave worked for Mr Bee until most night and commenced at noon. Mother and I visited fast until after dinner then started home via of Collins where I met Mr Kitchell who was authorized to bargain with me for land to raise their reservoir on. After some parleying he agreed that they would pay me nine hundred dollars and gave me a check for 100 dollars which I used to pay off my debt to the Pouder [Poudre] Valley bank then we came home in the rain.
