Diary commencing Thurs May 25 1893 A slow drizzling rain about all day but didnt wet down more than an inch in the plowed ground. We done the chores and some other odd jobs but not much else had no water in the Larimer Co ditch to irrigate with.

Fri May 24 Been cloudy most of the day and commenced to rain about 4 O clock very slowly but has rained quite a bit and now it is raining quite a bit. We found some 28 inches of water in the No 2 head gate so I started in to irrigate this morning a little after John Richards came along and turned some out of the big headgate. He said I could take 19 inches to the share and that we could use 3 shares so I did as near as I could. The boys renovated over the old fence up as far as the front gate from the lower end.

Sat May 27 Just such another fool day as yesterday. Cloudy in the morning and a few sunshiny streaks but sprinkled a little towards night. Lew went to town and took over the cream brought out a load of coal and this afternoon plowed and planted a few punkin [pumpkin] seed up near the potato patch. Kib worked at the wood pile for a main business. I irrigated alfalfa on the ten acre piece.

Sun May 28 Quite a pretty day. I kept the water running on the ten acre piece on the slope towards the south. Reas's and Charleys folks and Meda were here and we had a jolly time a visiting. The water was way down this morning but a good deal better to night.

Mon May 29 Clear and lovely. We done various odd jobs. Lew irrigated on the 10 acre piece but somebody turned the water about all into the Long Pond ditch and shut our gate down. I dont know what they did that for as we have not got that piece more than half irrigated. I will try to believe that there is nobody mean enough to treat us in such a way as that. I worked on the new flume across Dry Creek $2.50 there were 4 of us framing the flume timber making 2½ apiece which is ten dollars to day [today].

Tues May 30 A very windy day and pretty cold too. Lew and Kib fixed fence got pretty near through. I irrigated on the 10 acre piece until after noon and the water got so scarce that I went up to the ditch to see what the trouble was and found a splendid head in the main ditch and so I went to irrigating from the gate north of the house. Found that some miserable thief had stole some 20 or 25 trees from the timber claim. I allso [also] found that the Brandis ditch had run over the banks and wet quite a piece of the timber claim.

Wed May 31 A nice day once more. The boys finished fixing the fence and spraying the fruit trees and irrigated the strawberry patch. I irrigated all day up at windy hill commenced this morning with 33 inches in the headgate and finished to night with 17 inches.

Thurs June 1 Pretty fair mostly but got sort of squally towards night and rained a little here and considerable in a few miles south and east of here. The boys plowed out some of the truck patches. I irrigated the ballance [balance] of the ten acre piece and shut the water off then hoed corn a little. Now to day [today] is the first of June the grass is just starting a little but not enough to change the color of the prairys [prairies] much or to afford much feed. The wheat and oats are very backward and the ground is mighty dry and I am afraid that feed will be scarce this season.

Fri June 2nd Mostly clear and quite warm. Lew went over to work on the flume. Kib went to town and this afternoon helped to hoe. I tried to irrigate with 15 inches to the share this morning on the native meadow and this afternoon found the water 8 inches higher in the morning and 25 at 5 O clock PM so it gave us about 19 inches to share without changing the gate any.

Sat June 3 A very good average day only most too cool for comfort especially just at night. Kib hoed at the truck patches and replanted the corn north of the barn. Lew and I went over to the flume across dry creek and put in the day there a helping on the new flume. Had lots of good company and got along pretty well I think.

Sun June 4 Cold and cloudy and looked like it would rain if it could. Lew and Mary went up to the ranch and brought back a very good report of the stock and things up there. Mother and I staid [stayed] at home and kept Sunday. Mrs Bartlett came here about 2 O clock and we have visited hand over hand since.

Mon June 5 Clear mostly but a little squib of a rain about 3 O clock PM. Lew and I worked on the flume until 3 O clock PM making 7 hours each. Kib worked at severall [several] different jobs.

Tues June 6 A little frost this morning but a real nice day but we could get no water from Larimer Co Ditch so we all went to planting black locust seed on the timber claim and got along nicely. We expect Meda home to night so Kib has gone over to town to bring her out home.

Wed June 7 A beautiful day clear through and quite warm too. We all planted Locust seed and got along nicely too. We have no water in the Larimer Co Ditch for several days. Meda expects to go back to Boulder tomorrow.

Thurs June 8 Quite pleasant and pretty large warm. Lew went up to the ranch to bring down a couple of his mare to breed them has not got back yet. Kib and I finished planting the black locust seed on the windy hill place got done about 10 O clock AM making a half days work between us. Then we put in the rest of the day at the strawberries etc.

Fri June 9 Quite nice to day only it is so awful dry and it seems as though it was never going to rain. Mother Lew and I went over to town quite early for I had some business to do before we started out. We eat dinner at Mrs Rubys and started at 2 O clock for Denver by way of Boulder. Meda met us at the depot with a carriage and team and he drove us about town so that we could see the place. We thought it a very nice town with many nice residences and quite a goodly number of good business houses. We staid [stayed] at Mrs Bushes and were very much pleased with her and Medas surroundings. The boys irrigated the strawberries and done something at the cabbage plants.
