Mon Jan 1st 1894 The nicest day that we have had this year. Clear still and warm. The boys filled the pen for the fattening cattle this forenoon and this afternoon they kept new year by having a jolly time skating on the lake up north of the house. I finished the head gate that will be put in at the upper end of the alfalfa piece.

Tues Jan 2 Mostly clear but a little windy most of the time. The boys got a good load of Cottonwood. Mother and I got some goods to make me some pants it is corduroy. Paid 4,05 cts [$4.05] for the stuff. Got permission to run some water into the cistern when I can. Cleaned out the little ditch some after I came home.

Wed Jan 3 Had about 1 inch of snow this morning but it has been clear all day and has not thawed much. The boys say there is not so much snow in Spring Canion [Canyon] as here. They brought a very big load of cottonwood to day. I fixed the little sled for Perry and worked at fitting up bee hives the rest of the day.

Thurs Jan 4 Cloudy mostly but pleasant. The boys cut a good lot of wood. I had a lot to do up at windy hill then filed and set the big saw and Franks wood saw and some other little tinkering.

Fri Jan 5 Snowed a little last night and a little more this forenoon and has turned quite cold and the wind keeps up quite a howl until afternoon then quieted so the boys went and fed the beefers and filled the hay pens. I didnt do much but try to keep warm the thermometer marked most down to zero.

Sat Jan 6 Pretty cold all day but this morning from 6 to 11 below zero. The Home Comfort rangers staid [stayed] all night and Frank went with them up to Teds but he didnt seem out of range so they didnt go sell him one of them. Lew went to town this morning and got 1,700 lbs of coal and done some other errands. It was rather too cold for me so I staid [stayed] in.

Sun Jan 7 Sharp in the morn [morning] but clear and not much wind. Lew and Mary and Aggie went to town and are there yet for aught I know. The rest kept Sunday at home about as usual.

Mon Jan 8 Pretty fair day. Thawed a little in the middle of the day. We got two loads of ice into the ice house and another one cut.

Tues Jan 9 Right sharp this morning and has kept it up all day. We filled the racks for the beef steers and got 2 loads of ice into the ice house and have enough cut for another load.

Wed Jan 10 Mostly clear but a strong west wind so we got 3 loads and had to quit for the wind made it too warm for good healthy ice. Lew went up the Spring Canion [Canyon] ranch to take 3 of his young cattle up to John Dragers and he will take Clayton too I expect.

Thurs Jan 11 A good sort of a day. Lew got home just in time to get ready to start for town to vist Silas Buffoms folks. He brought his 3 heifers to John and put Clayton into Charleys pasture. Frank fixed the Carrell [corral] at windy hill and sawed wood the rest of the day. I have been quite under the weather to day. [Vertical text:]Clayton put in.

Fri Jan 12 Clear still and warm as nice as one could ask. Too warm to put up ice. Afternoon the boys got one good load of ice and cut a good lot of wood. I kept busy all day and done a good many little jobs.

Sat Jan 13 Nice still and warm. The boys finished the ice job and put a little hay into the loft. I went to town and I had an interview with Dr Wright and he treated me again so I am pretty sore now certain. Mother went to town with me and we took dinner with Mr Smiths folks and went then to Charleys and then to John Dragers and staid [stayed] there over night etc.

Sunday the 14 Franks folks went to Reas's I guess and Lews folks were at home when we got home to night. We visited at Johns most all day and stopped at Charleys on the way some and got home about sun down.

Mon Jan 13 Clear mostly and still and warm. Lew and Frank hauled 4 loads of hay from C V Howards. I split wood some and this afternoon wrote to A M Corbit and one to Mr and Mrs Wm H Robinson.

Tues Jan 16 Pretty nice this forenoon but this afternoon the wind blew quite hard by spells. The boys got two loads of hay from C V Howards and this afternoon they cut wood. I worked up at the cattle pens most of this forenoon and at the bee hives this afternoon. Made a busy day.

Wed Jan 17 Clear but cold and windy the latter part of the day. The boys got home 4 loads of hay to day which finishes the C V Howards hay. I worked at the bee hive business.

Thurs Jan 18 Clear and still but pretty cold in the morning from 4 to 10° above zero. Lew went to Greeley to day to see after his chances for work there. Frank and I filled the racks and he took Howards wagon rack home and I went to see the amount of water in Long Pond found some fellows fishing and bought 6½ lbs. They asked me 30 cts [$0.30] and said that they could get 15 cts [$0.15] a pound this afternoon. Frank cut ice for Mr Bee. I done sundry chores.

Fri Jan 19 Cold in the morn [morning] and afternoon. It was windy and got pretty cold again. Frank helped Mr Bee at his ice. Lew got home just at night but has no definite bargain yet. I worked at several odd jobs but this afternoon Mr Smiths folks were here and we visited mostly.

Sat Jan 20 Clear mostly but awful windy. Frank worked for Mr Bee. Lew cut wood awhile and then went to town then to Charleys and got Mother. I cleaned up the hay Carrell [corral] at windy hill then worked at bee hives and finished the job.
