Wednesday January 1 1890 The weather clear and sharp with quite a lot of wind in the afternoon. Dave and Lew hauled cornfodder in the forenoon and worked at the cow stable in the afternoon. I worked at the cow stable all day. There is water in the Larimer Co Ditch and I turned some into the lake.

Thurs Jan 2 Clear but pretty cold 5° above zero this morn [morning]. Filled the cistern to day. The boys finished hauling the cornfodder this forenoon. Lew went to town this afternoon with the Denver butter. I worked at the cowbarn what time I could get besides attending to the cistern.

Friday Jan 3 Clear still and rather cold. We went up and fixed it so that the stock can drink good from the lake. Then the boys puts loads of hay in the barn loft and I laid floor in the cowbarn.

Sat Jan 4th Just a nice day. Still and warm. Dave went to hunt Smokey colt and found him in the Buckingham field. Lew went to town got back just before night. I got the floor laid in the cow stable and that was just all I did get.

Sun Jan 5 Sort of foggy and the trees covered with frost and rather a raw cold wind. We all kept Sunday with Bert and Wilsie Black and Frank Carbin to assist.

Mon Rather a nice day on the whole. Lew and I hacked at the cow barn all day. Dave helped wash this forenoon and in the afternoon and in the afternoon went to town with Mr Dixon to get 75 feet in length of 2+4 scantling and I sent 15.75 cts to pay the order that I gave for threshing. W H Bernham had it.

Tues Bright and sunshiny all day but the wind was cold. We found 1/2 an inch of snow on the ground this morning. We all three worked at the cow barn this forenoon and Lew and I did this afternoon got the stanchions most done. [vertical along right side:] Got a letter from Mary. Frank is getting along nicely.

Wed 8 Quite nice still and warm. We finished the cow stable enough so that we got them in to night. Mother and Lill went up to Mr Dixons to see Will and when coming home the buggy tongue dropped down and the buggy turned around and throwed Mother out and broke her arm above the Elbow about half way to the shoulder. The Dr has been out and fixed her up as well as he could but I am afraid that she will have to suffer a good deal before it gets well.

Thurs 9th Warm enough with a strong West wind. The boys commenced to fill the ice house but it got so warm they quit after getting one load. Mother suffered a good deal to day with her arm and shoulder and the Dr didnt get here until quite a while afternoon and after he done it up good she seemed some easier. Mrs Cameron came to day and Ett and Reas came came to night.

Fri Jan 10 Nice again to day. The boys got a couple of load of ice to day. I dont brag of what I done to day but we had a lot of company and Mother feels a good deal better to day than she did yesterday and the Dr thinks she will get along all right now if nothing happens to hinder.
