Collector is not made this week, there will be not time, sufficient in law, to adver-tise and sell the lands on the day required by the law. And no sale of lands for taxes can legally take place afterwards; consequently the state & County will be deprived of their revenue to that amount, first stated.
Our Coroner makes a competent Sheriff, but is debarred by law from becoming Tax Collec-tor.
For these reasons I must ask the imme-diate appointment of a Sheriff & Tax Col-lector—and for the position would re-spectfully recommend David D. Irwin—who is competent in every way to perform the duties of the Office and can give a good bond.
