Description

Mississippi General Order No. 39 (1864) was issued by Governor Charles Clark on September 12, 1864. It modified sections of the State’s General Order No. 36 regarding recruiting infantry and cavalry units into the militia. It also called for the State’s militia to be mustered, inspected, and then its members permitted to return to their homes, subject to recall by their present units. It also limited the length of furloughs to ten days. (Macon Beacon, September 21, 1864)
