Description

Established in the early 1860s, J. J. Shannon & Company was a publication firm in Meridian, Mississippi. The company published The Daily Clarion, a newspaper that supported the Democratic Party, and its primary founder, James J. Shannon, had been active in Mississippi politics since the 1850s. The company also won its bid to serve as the State Printer of Mississippi in 1863. The company dissolved sometime around 1866 or 1868, and Shannon began a new partnership with Jones S. Hamilton and C. H. Wilson, called Shannon, Hamilton & Company, to run the Clarion. (The Weekly Corinthian, September 13, 1899; The Daily Clarion, July 6, 1864; The Daily Clarion, July 20, 1868)
