Description
The 72nd Regiment, Ohio Infantry was organized from October 1861 to February 1862 in Fremont, Sandusky County, Ohio under the command of Col. Ralph Pomeroy Buckland and served in the Western Theater in the Department of the Tennessee, the Department of the Cumberland, and the Department of Mississippi. It was later commanded by Lt. Cols. Herman Canfield, Leroy Crockett, and Charles G. Eaton. It was mustered out of service at Vicksburg, Mississippi on September 11, 1865. (NPS-BU; MSR-US; Wiki)
