Description
The Yazoo Rangers, also known as Capt. Gartley’s Company, Mississippi Militia (Confederate) was organized as an independent cavalry company on April 16, 1862 in Yazoo City, Yazoo County, Mississippi under the command of Capt. H. C. Tyler and served in the Western Theater. It was later commanded by Capt. William F. Gartley. It was reorganized on June 1, 1864 and designated as Company D of the 2nd Battalion Cavalry, Mississippi Militia (Reserves).
