United States. Army. Infantry Regiment, 43rd (1866-1869)



The 43rd Regiment, United States Infantry (1866–1869) was organized on September 21, 1866 as part of the Veteran Reserve Corps under the command of Bvt. Maj. Gen. J. C. Robinson. It was formed under an act of Congress dated July 28, 1866 and was comprised of soldiers who were wounded during the war to garrison cities, fortifications, and perform other non-frontline duties. Under the act of Congress dated March 3, 1869 to reduce the Army’s post-war manpower, it was consolidated with the 1st Regiment, United States Infantry on April 8, 1869.
