The 16th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry (Confederate) was organized on June 17, 1861 in Alcorn County, Mississippi under the command of Col. Carnot Posey and served in the Eastern Theater under Trimble's and Featherston's Mississippi Brigade. It was later commanded by Cols. Samuel E. Baker and Edward C. Councill.
