Description

Currently located in Oktibbeha County, Starkville was founded in 1831 in what was Lowndes County at the time of founding under the name Boardtown. On December 23, 1833, it became part of the newly created Oktibbeha County. Boardtown was renamed Starkville in 1835 when it became the county seat, which it remains today.
