Description

The 9th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry (Confederate) was organized in March 1861 in Alcorn County, Mississippi under the command of Col. James Ronald Chalmers and served in the Western Theater. The unit was reorganized in 1862 under the command of Col. Thomas W. White and served under Chalmers', Tucker's, Anderson's, and Sharp's Brigades. It was consolidated into the 9th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry on April 9, 1865 under the command of Col. William C. Richards. (HMU, 17; DR-MSOR, 582-592; NPS-BU)
