Description

The 1st Regiment, Mississippi Infantry (Confederate) was organized in August 1861 under the command of Col. Thomas J. Davidson and served in the Western Theater under Clark's and Beall's Brigades in the Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana. It was later commanded by Cols. John M. Simonton, W. B. Shelby, Maj. Thomas H. Johnston, Gen. Polk, and Capt. L. L. Jones. It was later consolidated with the 39th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry on January 7, 1863 and served under Featherston's Brigade.
