Description
The 6th Battalion, Mississippi Infantry (Confederate) was organized on April 19, 1862 in Lauderdale County, Mississippi under the command of Lt. Col. John W. Balfour and served in the Western Theater. It was later re-designated the 46th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry with the addition of four companies in the fall of 1862.
