Description
Operating at the state level, the Mississippi Historical Society (now known as the Mississippi Department of Archives) was established in 1858 to maintain the state's historical records. It was terminated soon after due to the outbreak of the American Civil War and remained in hiatus until 1890. (Wikipedia)
