Salt Department S. M. Columbus, Miss. Dec. 11th, 1863.

To His Excellency Chas. Clark Gov. State Missi~

Governor

I beg leave to hand you herewith my report to this date from the Commencement of your term of Office, as General Salt Agt. S. Miss. Showing a balance due by me of Nine thousand-Nine-hundred & Ninety-seven 40/100 Dollars—to the State, as yet unappropriated and Subject to your order. There is due Winston County 329 lbs. of salt, being the weight of the bbls. containing the Salt due said county & which was by error, estimated in the weight of said Salt & paid for by the Pres't Board of Police @ 16 cent pr lb. which amount, with all Sums re-ceived for Sale of Salt has been returned to the Treasury. I suggest, that you instruct Mr. Z. A. Philips or who-ever may be my successer, to either pay said county for Short weight as above stated or furnish them with the 329 lbs, Salt.

I also enclose you my letter of resignation as Genl Salt Agt. S. M.

Statement

I have Fifteen Hundred Dollars on hand recvd. from Presdt. Board Police of Kemper County through the hands of Hon P. H. Gully as a payment for 5000 lbs of salt, when the same shall be shipped from the Salt Works in Ala. by Mr Z. A. Philips to Sukarnarchie in the M. & O. R. Road, accessing to directions given they assuming all risk.

I would respectfully suggest that you instruct me to turn this amt. over to my successor
