Hon Jno J. Pettus

Governor of Mississippi

Dear Sir

I requested Mr E H Hicks to write you on the subject of procuring or granting me a release from Draft. I have an incomplete fistula & a painful one which precluded my being fit for field duties. But wish to hold myself in readiness to go as a volunteer as soon as my country needs me,

I would like my dear sir, a posi-tion in a Hospital. I could furnish my own servants & have now a nice stock of many useful medicines which I would like to dispose of—I do not know how the Community will flour-ish if leave Home as I leave the only Drug store—I can refer you to Gen Jones H Hicks. Gen Chas Clarke & many others for my character
