Letter from Captain Z. P. Stutts to Mississippi Governor Charles Clark; February 19, 1864
Philadelphia Miss Feb 19th 1864
To his Excellency Chas Clark Governor of the State of Miss
Z. P. Stutts to whom by your Excellenceys order permission was granted to Raise a company of mounted men for State Service. Begs leave to report that the Requisite numbers of men having ben Enroled Saturday the 6th of this Inst Was appointed as the day on which they Should meet and organize by the election of officers or that day as your Excellency Will percieve by Report of Result handed you—[per?]he Would therefore Suggest to your Excellency that the Company Should be assigned ^to^ duty in this county until I can get some of my Company mounted he Would therefore Beg your Excellency to offer the Services of the Company to the Conscript Bureau for Service in This or Some other Adjoining County they Consisting of Old men and Boys Could While Completing there Arangements for Service in the field perform the duty now performed by Companys belonging to Confederate Service Who might for the present render moore available in in the field than a Company of Old men and Boys Who never Sean Service
