Pontotoc June 1. 1864

Governor,

My Brother in Law, Doctor P. B. Dandridge, who was lately Sur=geon of McQuirk's Regiment of Missi State Cavalry, just before the transfer of that Regiment to the Con. States, tendered his resignation on Surgeon's Certificate of disability. He has never received any acceptance of his resignation, or notification of any other dispostion having been made of it. He now asks that if it has not been acted on that he may be assigned to duty with the State troops who have not been transfered. After the tender of his resignation, Dr Dandridge finding his health likely to improve sufficiently to enable him again to enter the service in his professional Capacity, applied for an invitation to appear for Ex=amination before a Medical Board of the Con. States. This application is now refused, as we infer, on account of some late order limiting invita=

tion to such as are in the Military Service of the C: S:, or it may be because there is no Vacancy. He has therefore only the alternative of reposting to the Con=Script Bureau to be desposed of, unless You will relieve him of this necessity by assingning him to duty in the Military service of the State

That You will appreciate the [proffsional?] Sensitiveness which prefer, ser=ving the Country in that Calling in that Calling in which he has aspired to and attained [?], to going into the ranks, and which impels him to make this application, I fully believe; and therefore take the liberty to ask as a personal favour that you will assign him to duty under his commission if in Your power.
