To Col Jas. D. Stewart Agent for Sale of Bonds &c

Sir. [gap] You will proceed to Richmond with the Certificates of the Depositories of the C. S. of the funds deposited by the State Treasurer and procure the bonds author-ized by law. The sum of Four Hundred Thousand Dollars deposited at Colum-bus to be funded in four per Ct bonds & you will ask the Secty of the Treasury to have issued in accordance with the State Statute enclosed

The sum of One Hundred and fifty five thousand two hundred Dollars de-posited at Montgomery and Selma in notes of less denomination than $100— was de-posited without authority of law, as the Statute admits of the funding only of bills of the denomination $100—. This sum you will apply for permission to withdraw and to exchange for the new issue accor-ding to law.

The remaining sum of $531.800—you will procure the bonds for in as small denominations as possible, under the regulations of the Treasury Dept. as they are required by the Act to be sold in the market

If any important change should be made in the funding laws, that will materially affect the interest of the State
