To His Excellency Adelbert Ames,
Governor of Mississippi

The undersigned, citizens of said County & State would beg respectfully to state and show unto your Excellency that, at the Fall Term of the Circuit Court of said County, that Alfred Mullen, was tried and convicted of an Assault & Battery with Intent to Kill and Murder, Selina Hill. The facts, are that, said Mullins was on his way home, in a state of Intoxication & in passing Mrs Hills House, a quarrel arose between them, and Mrs Hill followed said Mullen, for some distance, cursing and abusing him and in the heat of passion he turned and gave the woman a severe blow with a stick. He was sentenced to the Penitentiary for Twelve months by the Court, showing that the Judge did not regard it as a bad or opinated case.

The premises considered the undersigned would respectfully request your Excellency to pardon said Alfred Mullen. Up to this offence, the defendant bore a good
