Dear Col.
The object of this note is to ask your favorable consideration of the claim of Col W. M. Pound for the appointment of sheriff for Lee Co for the unexpired term of Mr Robertson deceased. I feel the bad taste in calling your attention so early after Mr Robertson death, but the very hasty action of others actuates me only to write at this time. Col Pound is personally one of the most reliabl-ble men in Lee County and no one in the State will make a better Sheriff for he has ample experience & would make us a Sheriff that we would be proud of. Rather he is a man of Property & can make a Bond without any trouble. I dislike to write you on the appointing subject in any respect but in this case I feel as a citizen

[Page folded] ??? Co very much interested and I feel perfectly confident that Col Pound would if appointed give general satisfaction for I know his capacity & will to perform the duties of the Sheriffs Office - If a petition is necessary please let me know by Wire from Artesia & how many days will elapse befor the appointment is made - Wire me at my expense - Petition best ten or five days as the case may be- Col do not laugh at this for I am a very zealous Pound man & have written in great haste and I hope he may be lucky for he is certainly worthy - Sorry you do not stop once in a while
Your friend
